Online competitions by finnguy on 14 June 2006 10:32am

I have recently been entering a few online competitions, the sort where you have to give your name, contact details and maybe answer a fairly easy question or two.

What I want to know is, am I wasting my time by entering these competitions more than once? Will every single entry go into the final draw, or will the organisers' computers filter entries so that only one entry per person will be valid? Any ideas?

Speaking of competitions, it's been a long time since we had one on Palin's Travels...

From my experience, you're wasting your time entering them period. I went through a two month spell where I'd enter about five a day (one competition was offering 200 copies of a DVD) and I didn't win a damn thing.

Anyway, usually, your IP will be logged and if there are multiple entries, you'll be disqualified.

Well, we've got to put into account that the Webmaster might just have a life of their own. It's not like it's an emergency if we don't have a competition. It'd be great to have another one, but be patient. Who knows. There might be something being planned as we speak.

The competitions are our treat. Not our right.

I used to enter competitions when I was bored stiff, and would enter more than once, and I was actually surprised to win concert tickets, so possibly. But i don't know anything about the IP thing, so no idea.

Here here Layne. I can't imagine Mr. Palins site is the ONLY one the webmaster works on. Those competitions are a treat, not a right.

I would assume you can only enter most of these contests once as the IP would be recognized, (unless otherwise stated).

A friend of mine won an all-expense paid trip for two to China through an on-line exhibition. He's the only one I've ever heard of winning anything, though.
