I met Michael today! by FURY-161 on 22 October 2002 1:47am
At the book signing in Aberdeen's Ottakers.
A throuroughly nice man (well, from what I could gather from the half minute I spent with him).
He was a bit rushed off his feet, and engaged in "autopilot" signing mode, which is fair enough when the queue to see him extended right round the circumferance of the shop the up the stairs to the next floor.

Poor man!

Waterstones in Glasgow was mobbed today - the queue snaked around the ground floor, up two flights of stairs, and around the second floor as well. 90 mins to get a book signed, but well worth the wait !

It was the Same in Aberdeen.
The queue was so long that people who hadn't arrived early were told the chances of seeing him were very low. The queue was GARGANTUAN, filling up most of the ground floor before heading upstairs.

The things we do for that man...

He was in Edinburgh giveing a talk, there was about 800 people present. The talk was excellent as we got a real feeling of the expereances he encounterd,it was almost canceled as he had a sore throat, but he carried on like a true pro. a book signing followed where most of hall queued,it was really great to meet the man himself.

Newcastle - I NEARLY met Michael today!! by ngg3 on 24 October 2002 10:01am
He was in Newcastle last night signing books, I got there early to queue & was told that because I'd 'reserved' a copy of the book - he was signing *them* at this very minute and I would be able collect my copy the following day. So.... I didn't want to look like a nugget(!) and queue to meet him when I had nothing to sign. However, I killed time and did pop back into the shop to see my hero "in the flesh" signing books for others (queue was 12 times longer!) - looking as GORGEOUS as ever! I'm just hoping that there *will* be a signed copy for me to collect today.....!!!! Yikes! :0(

**Just a note on the new website - It's an excellent idea, well authored, interactive, great design and fantasic to have an "official" site.

Congratulations Michael and Webmaster! :0)

Haven't managed 2 catch Michael yet on his latest book signing tour 4 sahara but I did meet him when he signed Hemingway's travels 4 me. I had queued for an hour & when I finally met the great man I was so overwhelmed that he asked me how I spelt my name and I couldn't remember! V.embarrassing. But what a lovely man!! ;-)
