A quick scan down the topics in this travel section shows quite a few suggestions for different types of tours. Other pages, I'm sure, will reveal more with information and advice on some of them. If any of these suit your requirements post in the relevant thread and you should be able to get more advice on a tour that suits you.

Re: lighting tours. Where, in the South East of England, is it best to lie down and do some star gazing without light pollution?

I'm not too familiar with S E England but generally, in answer to Ginnyp's question, an area away from street and other lighting with no moon will give the required conditions for star gazing. Country parks and off road lay-byes which are out of built up areas are best for having minimum light pollution in the sky.

I know it's quite far from S E England, but the first time I ever saw the Milky Way was in the desert. Amazing experience if you can stand very law temperatures! Small islands are usually good because there aren't many illuminated buildings (and of course they might also be warmer than the desert!). Anyway, I think any isolated place is good enough to spot some stars.
