India + railway by chrirons on 18 December 2006 1:56pm

Morning All,

having heard various conflicting reports about India's rail system, (some never been, other were there 10 years ago, more travelled by package tour but heard this...), I was hoping some of you might be able to enlighten this question.
We're on a tight(ish) schedule and want to make sure.

Thanks for your help.

My daughter has recently done a train journey tour from Pune to various places in northern India and back. She is planning a southern India trip before she comes back to the UK. It was organised from within India and the schedule ran to time as far as I'm aware. The passenger service on train journeys in India is very different from the European train service. Prepare yourself for a culture shock if you are flying in to do the train journey. One advantage is that accommodation can be found that is very cheap, depending on the lifestyle you expect.
