Northern Exposure - a surreal, funny series.

Professional Foul. Tom Soppard at his ironic best. It was in black and white and starred Peter Barkworth.

Dead Like Me.

The Whirlybirds. (one from my childhood)

As a kind of 'sub-subject' if there is such a word (!!) this is to those old enough to remember Watch with Mother *cough*:

Which was your favourite?

Mine was Monday's Picture Book. At the time I thought it marvellous that Maid Marion was presenting it - remember I was only little. The actress (Patricia Driscoll I think) did both. Second favourite was Bill and Ben (though I LONGED for the gardener to catch them at the end of each episode ("Quick!! He's coming down the garden path!!")).

My Mum liked the Woodentops - especially Spotty Dog)!!

My least favourite - even as a toddler I thought it was stupid and hated it!! - was Andy Pandy. The only good part about it was Teddy who was always naughty!

Oh yes! "Northern Exposure"!!! With "Chicago Hope" and "Slings and Arrows" one of the best written series ever. Got dvd's of them all so I don't have to wait for them to show up on cable.

I've never heard of "Personal Foul", perfectbitch. I love Tom Stoppard. When was it produced and did it ever find its way to the U.S.?

Oh Northern Exposure. I adored that show. I have a black and silver drinking mug with the logo on it. Got it for my day once year! Gosh, time flies.

Just to show you what a mess I am, one of my favorite shows when I was young was "My Mother The Car", the TV show with the worst ratings in history. What can I say, I was just a kid...

Just remembered: Saved By the Bell (guilty pleasure), Fame, and the following cartoons: Clutch Cargo, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Wacky Races, any of the old Merrie Melodies shorts.

I think Professional Foul was broadcast in the late 60's?early 70's. I have tried to find a cd of it but can only find the script. Some friends of mine have an ancient video which I will get transfered if I can.

It is set before the iron curtain came down. Barkworth plays a professor of ethics who is a football fan and England are playing qualifying matches for either the European cup or the World cup. So he arranges to go to international conferences on ethics at the same places where England are playing. This time it's in Prague and the ethics delegates, the footballers and the press are all in the same hotel.

He is approached by an old student of his who wants him to help get his thesis smuggled out of Prague so that it can be published in the UK.

I won't tell you any more except that the term professional foul comes from football - fouling a key player on the opposing team to keep him out of competition for some time.

Repeated? Yes Minister, Yes Prime Minister, Black Adder, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, At last the 1948 show, Do not adjust your set, Fawlty towers... Huge number of shows I'd love to see. Luckily many of them are on DVDs.
