When you are sick. Well not seriously ill. Enough to be a bother and out of work, but not enough to worry.
Bottom line is I cannot eat (like I need more food). Lost seven pounds in two days. The point of this diatribe is control and discipline. I have not been eating and find I am not missing it.
It is about control, LOL!

I have to laugh. It took being arrested (for those who have not known me that long, ask me offline please) and court ordered anger management to learn about control issues LOL! My boss teases me (control issues, you? No way)!;-)

Moral of story. Yes, there is a moral to this, even if it is 2 A.M. Use control on you. Maybe I am just getting older and slower, but hopefully wiser.
It is learning to use what can be a negative as a positive.
Yes, I tend to be this philosophical @ this hour LOL!

You sound EVER so slightly dazed-and-confused, Mike. If it's 2 am you're excused.
If you're sick I hope you soon feel better: re weight loss, beware (from an old hand) when the real hungry hunger comes back - the weight can go back on alarmingly

In my Overeaters Anon. meetings I learn that we overeat in order TO control emotions. Visualize that your feelings are trying to come out, so you stuff them back down with food. I and my fellows in OA have discussed how we are smug because we think we are in control. We are smug because we THINK, at least we are not intoxicated. But IN FACT food addiction is just that, it's an addiction and an oral fixation and an escape mechanism just like smoking and drinking.

So the most effective thing I've done is NOT try to control myself, that never worked anyway, but to use the 12-Step method, and turn my control over to my Higher Power (even though I'm not sure who my that is!), one day at a time.

BTW I haven't nearly gotten to 12 steps. More like 2 1/2!

The difference with food being, you HAVE to have it, unlike alcohol and tobacco.
Actually, I am using the same techniques I teach in public speaking only with adding what I learned about control. Buddhism is sounding better and better.

I am not a genius (despite what Karen says, with the Tucsonmike Appreciation Society, though I never dismiss the kindness and the adulation LOL)! I can only teach the basic truths and what is inside me that I have experienced.

The control part is what I had to learn about later. It is turning negatives into positives.

In other words set the goal for where you really want to be and aim for it.
I would ask Mr. P, for example, what goal he would like to achieve and his action steps for getting there.

Who says you HAVE to have food Mike ? Alcohol and cigarettes are sustenance enough for me. ;)
