Robin Hood on DVD by mrsthing on 20 July 2008 12:24am

I saw the entire series of Robin Hood starring Richard Greene on DVD in a bin at Wal*Mart, so I bought it. It's stirring up some happy memories of watching reruns of the shows when I was a little kid. (The series ran from 1955-1961; I would have been three when it ended.)

It's funny how the memory works, though. When the theme music came on, I remembered it instantly as the song we heard on the radio and the song my brother and I used to sing along with when watching the show. Then suddenly, I realized it was the song the Pythons were parodying in "Dennis Moore". But all this time of watching Dennis Moore over and over again, the song never rang a bell. I guess I needed that old black and white film to really jog my memory. Either that, or I'm fabricating the memory.

At any rate, I'm enjoying the shows. They're a bit fuzzy, but RG is very easy on the eye. ;-) And the plots and action are so obviously contrived it's laughable.

I thought RG made a movie , not a TV series. Hmmmmmmmm.... Maybe both? Do you know?

Well, he may have made a movie too (presume you mean as RH?) but he is most famous for making the RH TV series in the 50s/60s.

Hang on a mo' while I have a google (OOOO Matron!!!):...............seems he made the film 'The Sword of Sherwood Forest' in 1961.

Oh, see? I knew he played RH in a movie. I probably saw him in the TV series too, but I know I remember him playing RH. Then, of course, I fell in love with Errol Flynn in that role. Whew-whew!!!!!!
