I can't keep my window open anymore.. by elina on 8 September 2008 5:37pm

I was at the university all day, I was very tired and soaking wet when I got home. I started to make dinner, and read the magazine I bought on the way home. Then I notice white dots on my bed, on the pillow, on the shelf, on the table, on the floor... and there is only one explanation: a bird has been in my apartment! I have a smaller window which I have to keep open in order to get some air in my small home, so obviously the bird has come from that. And got out same way. since (good for it) it's not here anymore (I hope). Bees used to come from that window but obviously bigger animals come, too. Now I have to get bird s**t of my bed.

I'm so happy...

Sorry, Elena! Perhaps a screen can be installed in the window? Or not, I don't know, but it's worth finding out.

POOR you, Elina! What a chore! Yes, a screen - or even gauze/net pinned over your window (if practical) might seem a good idea

Get a cat to act as sentry?

Speaking of birds, my zebra finch who has been laying eggs for a year and a half finally hatched one! A fully feathered beige baby emerged from the nest today. He can't fly yet and looks very confused to be out in the big, wide world of the cage but his mom is still taking good care of him. Haven't had zebra babies before so I don't know what color he'll end up as mom is all white and dad is brown, orange, grey and speckles.

Elina, you were doing what I was doing all day. Could you hang a curtain over the open window? That would probably be enough to deter the bird.

Congratulations, Sighthound!

I do not envy you.

Hang a few blank cds in the window, they will spin and catch the light and hopefully scare you new little friend away! This worked for my friend who was having his canaries attacked by a butcher bird(aptly named as they kill caged birds). It worked, the bird stayed right away.

Thank you all for your ideas! Can't install a screen for it, since this is a rented apartment. That CD trick sounds good, thank you Karen! Cat would be lovely, but I don't want to take one when I'm living in the city.

Congratulations for your baby bird, Sighthound! :)
