Anne is happy!!! by Spursfan on 26 October 2008 9:19am

Yes, Anne is happy, despite the rain and the cough etc!!

This is the reason:

Now perhaps we'll start winning some games !!

:)

Well, they had to do SOMETHING. My Spurs-supporting friends thought El Tel might be brought back - husband says No Way. (Silly story - someone I heard of in Tottenham had 2 dogs, named Terry and Venables).

Hahaha!

Terry was my hero in school (well after Jimmy Greaves that is!!). I was thrilled when he was manager (TV, not JG (though why not!)) and actually was thinking about him yesterday too!! I was thinking 'We need Tel!!'!!

I will probably regret this LOTS but when I was in my early teens I wrote him a poem. It is not exactly Poet Laureate stuff (though I was at the same school (a year ahead) as Carol Ann Duffy who was shortlisted as Poet Laureate at one time). With ne'er a backward glance or a caution for my reputation, I copy it below:

Terry you're so gorgeous
My heart it skips a beat
When you kick a football
With your Tottenham Hotspur feet.

I hope Harry Rednapp does well for Tottenham H. I even remember back to when Danny Blanchflower played for them.

Oh, Anne, your poem came from sincere admiration & a full heart!

I wish Carol Ann had accepted. It'd have been great to have a woman Laureate. I believe it's to be Simon Armitage?
Do you like Wendy Cope?

I remember Danny Blanchflower playing for them when I was a small child. I thought it great that he did adverts on the telly (was it Shredded Wheat or something?).

I'm afraid I am not familiar with her, Linda (no comments please JTM!!).

At 15 or 16 I sent some poems (better than the Terry one!!) off to a publisher and had them accepted BUT it was one of those firms where you have to pay !! A scam!! Of course at that age I was devastated.

I don't really find TV that gorgeous any more - don't know what I saw in him really but still!!!

What a (cautious) feeling of relief! As a long term fellow Spurs fan this season has been an absolute nightmare so far and I was really starting to feel that the Championship was beckoning at the end of the season. Now there is some cause for hope with Harry Hotspur at the controls. Just need some decent strikers who can play together and score goals and maybe, just maybe, we will stay up this time.
