I dare not even ask what THAT'S about.

"Imperial Grunts:The American Military On The Ground",by Robert Kaplan. This book has been around for 3 or 4 years, and(worryingly)is 2nd on President George W.Bush's reading list at the moment.Kaplan has been embedded with US forces and writes from an American Imperialist point-of-view,so his book will be welcomed by American imperialists everywhere, including all those in the White House.
Apparently the word 'grunt'is US slang for unskilled workman, labourer; or also US soldier/infantryman--supposedly someone who gets on down and does the hard dirty work.

I started reading it. I like Robert Kaplan's books anyway. Read it, and you will get an entirely different look about our military. Trust the grunt, not the guy in the White House.

I love the title of this thread - "Imperial Grunts by tucsonmike".

Really Mike - are those braces too tight? !!

;)

Mike, how many pairs of suspenders do you own? What colours are they? :)

Re: Imperial Grunts by peripatetically on 30 October 2008 11:13pm

Hm, if I get a chance between PT appts. I'll see if my library carries that book, Mike. The person I "knew" who was a Green Beret was mentioned by name in a book many years ago. He didn't even know it, but I found it and showed it to him. I can't for the life of me remember the title now. Darn it.

The one pair of suspenders is NOT too tight LOL! Having got that out of the way...

I finished the book. Quite interesting. I have even more respect for our folks in uniform. Read it and learn more about them.
