Baltimore Colts (for Patty) by tucsonmike on 11 November 2008 1:04am

Yesterday's Parade Magazine had an article by Frank Deford (editor of Sports Illustrated and Baltimore native) about the famous 1958 New York Giants/Baltimore Colts playoff game and the sociology of the two cities.

I've always liked Frank Deford. He also contributed to a series on History Channel about Ancient Rome. A real Renaissance Man.

I like him too! He does a weekly radio commentary on NPR. Years ago, I wish I could remember the particulars now, he wrote an op-ed piece which appeared on the last page of Sports Illustrated. He made a case for why there should never be any more boxing. It was a brilliant essay, and I agreed with every point he made (violent/arbitrary/exploitative...). Which is why it's messed up that I still love boxing so much and watch at least once a week to this day. I wonder if I could ever find that essay now...
