Nothing surprises me anymore.

omg: "Jamie and I were kitted out in fake utility belts, we had the whole bulletproof flakjacket thing, we've got hairdryers in our belt, a kids' £1.99 walkie-talkie, hairbrushes and all that kind of stuff, and we were being followed by a camera crew and a boom mike and we get literally pulled over by four policemen and we were issued with a warning 'under the act of terrorism'."

The UK is screwed.

It's one thing to be questioned by anti-terrorist police for wearing combat gear and carrying a hair-dryer,but this report says that the officers stopped them in the street and "took down their particulars...."

Oh my gosh,I would think that would be HIGHLY embarrassing;now that really IS going too far!!!!

'We are holding you under the Anti-Terrorism Act because you're running around in flak jackets and a utility belt', and I said 'and please put spangly blue hairdryer' and he was, like, 'all right'."

"Allo, allo, allo! What do we have here then? A spangly blue hair dryer is it? Well it's off to the nick for you me ol' beauty!"

Ok so things are starting to regress a few hundred years.. I just hope they don't start sending them all over to Sydney again..:

"Farewell to old England forever,
Farewell to my rum culls (and spangly blue hairdryers) as well,
Farewell to the well-known Old Bailey,
Where I used to make such a swell.

Singing Tooral liooral liaddity
Singing Tooral liooral liay
Singing Tooral liooral liaddity
And we're bound for Botany Bay"

Geez... I know that living in a country where those terrorist episodes are almost unheard of (who would bother to send two planes into our Christ in Rio???) I certainly miss the whole picture but that kind of unbearable thing would cause a BIG problem for those policemen if in our streets...

With the murder rate in Rio, I would think that your policemen already have a BIG problem on the streets.

Re: This is ridiculous! by Nestorp on 28 January 2010 4:17pm

Not quite! Most of the murders ARE due the policemen... (kkkkkk)

Actually what we do have there is a really uneven Human Development Indexes (meaning two quite different realities coexisting):

In 2000, there were neighborhoods with very high human development indexes equal to or greater than the indexes of some Scandinavian countries, but also those in the lower range in line with, for example, North Africa.

Top neighborhoods and localities

Gávea (0.970) - (Greater than Iceland, Norway - 0.968)
Leblon (0.967) - (Greater than Australia - 0.962)
Ipanema (0.962) - (Greater than Canada - 0.961)
Lagoa (0.959) - (Equal to Ireland - 0.959)

Neighborhoods and localities in last place

Complexo do Alemão (0.711) - (Less than Gabon - 0.729)
Jacarezinho (0.720) - (Less than Sri Lanka - 0.743)
Rocinha (0.732) - (Less than Algeria - 0.748)
Cidade de Deus (0.751) - (Less than Iran - 0.771)
