Whats your favorite dinner? by Loretto on 3 February 2010 5:46pm

Two slices of whole wheat toast, two slices of Canadian bacon, two fried eggs, served with sweet red pepper relish. That's if I'm cooking. If I am being 'served' my fav is striped Chilean sea bass with pan fried and buttered kale.

To start, minestrone soup. Next, mince, mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables for the main course with a glass of good Merlot wine. For dessert, custard to my own recipe, poured over one of my wife's iced fairy cakes or with fruit cocktail. Filtered coffee with milk and brown sugar to finish.

I'm not sure what my favorite meal is, but I love::::::

Wiener schnitzel;
Pork and sauerkraut w/mashed potatoes;
Turkey and ALL the traditional American/Maryland trimmings;
Lasagne;
Sauerbraten and dumplings;
Fried shrimp;

MARYLAND's Lady Baltimore Crab Cakes using BACK FIN or LUMP only, with Old Bay seasoning alongside Mom's homemade potatoe salad and slaw, lettuce and tomato;

Roast beef (brisket) with mashed potatoes and gravy.

I like most veggies if they aren't boiled, cooked and/or baked to death. Family has a variety of wonderful recipes such as string bean casserole with mushrooms and water chestnuts.
Also, my mother's homemade vegetable soup is to die for.

Dessert:
Cake--- apricot brandy;homemade fruit cake; grandmother's 1-2-3-4; devil's food; raisin spice; walnut pound; pineapple upside-down.

Choccie ice cream; french or plain vanilla ice cream with hot fudge syrup or choccie syrup.

Pies---cherry, peach, lemon merangue pumpkin; and a decent apfelstrudel; Hungarian pastry puffs; and regular cream puffs. My German grandmother's recipe for cinnomin sticky buns with raisins and pecans.

Cookies-- choccie chip, Banbury tarts, peanutbutter crisscross, walnut slices, sugar cookies, raisin spice balls

ALL of the baked goods are family dishes and you can't find them anywhere. WE NEVER USE A BOX CAKE OR CANNED FROSTING.

The German dishes--- find in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, etc. and my father's mom's kitchen when I was a child! Hm-Hm GOOD!!!!!!!!!!! My mom makes most of this as well. And there are loads of German restaurants that serve very good food here in the USA.

If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.

I adorer eggs, toast jellies and jams, scones,muffins and bagels, bacon, scrapple, ham, french toast, pancakes.

Now I'm going to get something to snack on. It's a terrible influence coming on this site. lol.

Whatever we have to hand. I don't have a particular favorite.

Chicken. I did one flavored with garlic and herbs on our indoor rotisserie last night. I have yet to meet a chicken dish that I haven't liked. I also love pot roast with mashed, or pizza. I made mac and cheese tonight with spinach. And chocolate.

Anything that ends with tiramisu!
I love Atlantic salmon though, chargrilled.

I have a very mild foodphobia so there isn't a lot of foods that I actually like, let alone eat. But my favourite meal is a cheese omelette.

Beth I saw a telly show about people who eat because they have to and don't really get pleasure from food. I cannot imagine what that would be like coz whatever the direct opposite of that's called, well that's me!

Well, my son thinks I'm dreadful with the choice out there BUT my very very favourite meal is fried egg and homemade chips! Mmmm yummy!

But I am also partial to a homemade roast dinner - roast lamb being my favourite but I love roast beef and roast pork (with plenty of crunchy crackling!!) too.

Steak, chips and (especially) onion gravy is another favourite of mine.

But then I also LOVE pies (see? all the bad stuff!!), and my husband's special fish curry (made with pichards it is quite a 'dry' curry and is GORGEOUS)!!

Really, I like most things. Just NEVER serve me: brussel sprouts (YUK YUK YUK - the devil's food!!); ANY offal whatsoever; anything 'unusual' such as rabbit, game, wild animals of any description etc; anything that is not normally eaten from a 'normal' animal - I am thinking particular of ram's testicles (a delicacy in Turkey), but also pig's head, brains or trotters or anything along those lines. You get the picture.

I hasten to add here that we usually eat fairly healthily and only have a 'chips dish' once a week if that. We eat plenty of fruit and fresh vegetables.

I am totally spoilt actually because my husband trained for 3 years as a chef after leaving school then worked as a chef for a few years and now does all the cooking!

:)

Well we've just been out for dinner with my parents and I had the nicest seafood pancake in the world, just absolutely gorgeous! To finish I had after dinner mint ice cream (shaped like a toblerone and covered in dark chocolate). The BEST!
