Alistair McDonald by Ken Dunn on 21 February 2010 9:25am

We were at a folk club on Friday to hear a great performance by Alistair McDonald, a Scottish singer, entertainer and broadcaster, and his guitar and banjo playing was superb. I really liked it when he turned his amplifier volume down before starting and I didn't have to wear ear plugs the whole night!

I enjoy live music and will keep my eyes open for him. We have a very good folk festival in Geneva, IL every Labor Day weekend (about 15 miles from me).
It's one of the sad ironies of life out here. Depending on public transportation connections, it can take nearly two hours to get to Chicago (I refuse to drive into the city; call it strong self-preservation instincts). I went to see Andy Summers at a guitar festival at the University of Illinois a few years ago. It took less time to get down there than it can to get into the city. Go figure.
