Had a bit of a federal election here yesterday by kazzzz on 22 August 2010 5:31am

Still too close to call. We won't know anything for a few days but it's likely to be a hung parliament. Interesting.

I saw that on the news and wondered who got the most votes/seats. If your prediction assessor is as good as the BBC's then you will have a hung parliament but it is always best to wait until the votes are counted and recounted if necessary.

Which party is 3rd in the running?

Ken,

There's not really a third party in the House of Representatives. The balance of power will rest in the hands of five crossbench members - a Green and four independents (that's assuming the independent Andrew Wilkie wins in Denison). Most pundits reckon the Green and Wilkie will support the Labor Party. The other three indies are a little harder to read, but they've vowed to all vote in a block. So far, the ABC has Labor on 72 seats and the LNP on 70, with three seats still in doubt (and the LNP leading in all three). You need 76 seats to govern outright - so, if the LNP picks up 73, and the three indies side with them, it's all over for Julia Gillard. And Tony Abbott will be out Prime Minister. And I'll vomit in terror at the thought...

Kazzzz,

In saying all that, I still think Labor deserved a kick up the bum, particularly after what happened to poor Kevvy. It's just a shame that kick will most likely be fatal. :-(

I fear for the future if Abbott and co get in. If Kev had still have been in it'd be all done by now.

It's amazing how similar most of the policies of political parties really are.

Apparently.

Still no result...why are we waiting???

Re: Had a bit of a federal election here yesterday by Ellerd on 25 August 2010 4:53am

Could be waiting a little while longer yet, Kazzzz. There are still three seats where the result is too close to call. Postal votes don't have to be in by Friday, apparently. Results in some electorates, if they're really close, may be re-counted. I don't reckon we'll know the result until next week.

And if the independents don't come to an agreement, they'll be unpacking the voting booths and we'll be going through it all over again. Yippee! - NOT!

We've finally got a government now! And the right one!
