The Chatter Box : Blathering On
Thoughts and Prayers for Val please by Spursfan2 on 22 March 2012 1:04pm
Well, as you will know if you have read my posts under 'McDonald Hobley', our elderly neighbour has been in hospital for 6 or 7 weeks with a broken pelvis, 2 broken thighs, smashed ankle and lacerations after being knocked down getting out of her car. You will also know that her husband of 46+ years died on Saturday, after suffering with alzheimers, while she was in hospital.

Well this morning, I opened the front door to find her son (or son-in-law, I forget!) He owns a garage and we always took the cars and motorhome there (before I had motability) without knowing the connection! He said he had Val in the car as he was taking her to the chapel of rest to see Elwyn, and she had insisted on coming to see us (bless). So of course we both went out to see her. Val's son (-in-law?) told us the info re the funeral, and that they wanted us to go (they're having a small family do so you can see why we felt VERY honoured).

Val is coming out of hospital this afternoon and into a nursing home, and then home with a full-time carer. Zak has been visiting her every week in hospital, both in Stoke and Stafford, always taking her something like a piece of home made cake (which she adores).

I went with him yesterday - I haven't been before as I've been ill and didn't want to pass anything on! - and she looked relatively well, sitting up in a chair, dressed.

PLEASE will you send this wonderful lady your thoughts and prayers - she spent the last 6 weeks of her husband's life away from him in hospital. Very very sad.

Thank you Sue and Johnny. She is a very strng woman (thankfully) - mentally and physically, though she is TINY!! Little more than 5 foot nothing, and very very slim, though she loves her food !!

I am sure she'll come through this (I don't know if I would!!), or at least I hope she will.
