Any tips for travel in South America?

My full question is in the travel section. Sorry about the multiple post, problem with my PC.

Venezuela can be quite inexpensive. Quaint accommodations are also there if you look around. There are some websites dealing strictly with Venezuela that offer some good ideas. If you decide to rent a car, don't be surprised if the gas is about 10 times LESS than you expect.

When my husband came home from a tour in Afghanistan last year we went to the Venezuelan Andes for a week and then to the coast to one of the national parks. These were both lovely locations, relaxing and beautiful.

Unless you have a real hankering for big cities, dirt, crowds and traffic jams, avoid Caracas except as a hub. There are loads of small locally operated airlines and you can buy tickets to pretty much any location right in the airport. Again, because fuel is cheap, so are the flights.

Have fun!
