Python Grag Bag by voxpops on 6 December 2005 5:04am

FYI:

1) The book "Python By the Pythons" is now available in paperback. Those of you who missed it and/or couldn't afford the hardcover will be glad that it is now available. I highly doubt that it will contain a large number of the photos available in the initial release, but beggars can't be choosers.

2) Graham Chapman has a new book out. Seriously! It's called "Calcium Made Interesting." Has anybody seen it yet? Is it worth buying? Please let us know.

3) Anybody hear anything about the planned Chapman bio-pic "Gin and Tonic"? Did the producers run out of money?

I managed to ask Santa for the hardback when it first came out and he delivered but put his back out in doing so!! I hadn't heard about the new Graham Chapman I will have to have a look for it - is he writing from beyond the grave, life in the after must be pretty dull!! I had heard they were trying to put a bio pic together about him but hadn't heard if they had managed to get passed casting anyone.

Just bought the paperback but haven't started reading it yet.

Ad 1) Well, I hope at least SOME bookshop here in Prague will have it... I'd love to buy it, but I prefer paperbacks, since hardbacks are quite expensive and, frankly, it's the same stuff inside... ;-)

Ad 3) I read on one Python discussion forum that they were considering some actors to play Graham, but they didn't decide. The film was supposed to have a page on IMDB.com, but it's not there any more, so I guess the production has stopped... Too bad. :-/

The paperback version has only a small part of all the picture stuff but isn't as large and heavy as the hardback, more suitable for reading on travel. The new Chapman book is something of a bigger version of "Chapman Crackers", both compiled by Jim Yoakum and provide all kind of stuff made by Graham Chapman (Dangerous Sports Club...). By the way there is also a new Chapman DVD available you should have in your Python collection:

Word of warning about the "Brown Trouser Job" DVD: although it is quite funny, the quality of the picture and sound are quite poor. It looks like this was never meant to be released to the general public, but, rather, for Grahams personal use. I would rent it first before I bought it, if I were you, to see if you can tolerate this low-cost production.

I bought the Brown Trouser DVD and I love it. Yes, the quality is poor but it's still wonderful to see Graham so relaxed and just chatting with the audience!

I tell ye all to buy Calcium Made Interesting right now...it is the most genius creation of Graham-ness in the world of Graham's genius-ness. It's various things written by him, unused sketches, essays and the like...including a very funny one about going down a mountain in a gondola. Hilarious stuff...or you could buy it for someone for christmas and then read it first, there's still time lol.
I can't find The Pythons by the Pythons anywhere but then living in shakespeare's hometown they dont sell much other than his stuff really...
