Just Realized by lindsey on 3 January 2006 2:04am

This just hit me about 20 mins ago when I was working out. The only thing that is garunteed in life is death. Of coarse I've heard the expression "the only things garunteed in life are death and taxes". But I never really thought about it. So if this is true, why bother?(with a hint of sarcasism). Reaching my full potiental won't make me immortal or will it? Hmmmm, I don't know. Will getting rich and making a heck of a lot of money buy me a ticket into heaven? I hope so, that's my only chance (with a humorous tone).

I enjoyed the sarcasm Lindsey. One of the books I am reading for my Eastern European blog is Called Between East and West about the Eastern European borderlands. Since, I have traveled in many of those places, you learn quickly how to some little is guaranteed. What guarantees are there, where you can live in the same place all your life, but you may have had five different governments? You didn't move. The country did. Or someone else invaded.

Lindsey, it took me a lot longer to learn that lesson. I had the expense account and all that other good stuff. Now it's gone. This is going to sound trite, but you know something? I'm glad! Losing it made me a better person in the end. My point? Nothing is guaranteed. Do your family and friends love you? Are you respected as a good person, not feared as a tyrant? That is about all you can ask for.
Immortality? Depends on what it is. According to Italian journalist Luigi Barzini, Mussolini told his mother he would make the earth tremble. Well, look how far THAT got him?
Determine where you excel and what to shoot for.

Try to live in the moment Lindsey, the past is gone and the future hasn't happened yet. Death is a certainty for us all and who knows what happens or doesn't happen next? Love is all. Linz

In the words of Arwen: "I would rather share one lifetime with you [Aragorn] than face all the ages of this world alone"

Come on then, I know you're all thinking it; awwwwwwwwww!!

Well good luck Renee. Sounds as though you will do well.
Arty, if you hadn't passed that on, we would not have known!:-) I teach my public speaking students that all the time. Don't apologize for errors and move on. If you forget something, only you know. Don't call attention to it...

One of the guys in my Toastmasters club gave a speech last night, the theme being "life is short." One of his colleagues seemingly had nothing wrong and suddenly died last Friday. So you never know. Remember Carpe Diem. Seize the moment.

Realising this means one thing: you became a grown-up... :)

Chris.

Oh, Jaime, some things you have to live through to gain the wisdom. I used to think "shucks, why didn't I do that when I was younger." Certain experiences point the way.
