OK, thanks for the warning! I'll stay out of the hong kong section of europe & leave my blonde wig at home! That'll leave room for more coconuts... 8-)

No problem, h-123 -- I'm an inveterate ranter myself...

About Doune Castle.... Any recommendations on where to stay? How far is it from Stirling? Bike-able distance?

Have checked out some travel books from the local library -- Rough Guides, Lonely Planet & Rick Steves. Quite overwhelming!

If you're planning to go to France(my dear country)(tears of emotion), don't only go to Paris, it's an interesting place but, let's face it, people are not really welcoming and it's kind of stressful (if that word does exist). France is wonderful,
though. There are loads of charming towns- and not only the cliché ones in Provence where 95 per cent of the population is 80... I'm sorry I have to say that but most French don't like Parisians. Joe

missfrog/Joe -- we've got only 3 days for France (July 4-6, flying out on July 7). 8-(

We'll be staying in Paris. I understand that the Loire Valley is a nice day-trip away. Is there another day-trip you'd recommend?

How about Versailles? That's within a day's journey. Less, probably

Re: 1st trip to Europe by sminobe on 1 April 2005 4:44am

My daughter will have seen Versailles already (she'll be on a separate tour from 6/26-7/3). I will keep it in mind, tho', in case she would like to see it again, or at least see more of it. Thanks!

Anywhere else? Mt St Michel maybe -- or is that too far?
