I avoided bringing it up so I'm glad you Americans did. Aretha was dreadful, I can't say I took much notice of her hat but I dare say that's a guy thing. I did'nt think much of the poetry reading either.
As for the music, just it was crazy to expect such musicians to perform on such a cold day but I was'nt fully aware of the effect that the cold would have on their instruments.

I presume you are referring to BRASS INSTRUMENTS,jtm?? --(it's difficult to play well with a frozen horn)

Some wag (rather unkindly,I thought)wrote to the GUARDIAN saying : "We know it ain't over till the fat lady sings,so why did they put her on first?.." (I don't think Aretha would have been impressed by such sentiments)
