Re: Gunman on the loose in Cumbria by bIG bLOGGER on 4 June 2010 3:00pm

The GUARDIAN has a story today that DERRICK BIRD,who killed 12 and wounded 25,on a 3-hour rampage/spree of killing in Cumbria, was worried that he could be jailed for not payment of tax on an inheritance of £60,000 pounds from his 90-year-old mother.
But evidently, there were other significant issues surrounding this man's troubled life as a taxi driver.

The Scottish Daily Record has a fairly insightful story on mass murderer DERRICK BIRD,and their reporter advances several theories as to why he might have snapped and gone on a killing spree:

1) He had fallen out with his wife Linda when she was pregnant with their son Jamie, because he wanted her to have an abortion but she had refused. They broke up soon after, since when he had lived alone.

2) He was teased by fellow taxi drivers over "the lasses",and he took it too personally, holding grudges against fellow cabbies in Whitehaven, shooting 3 cabbies on the rank, one of whom--Darren Rewcastle--he shot dead at point-blank range.

3) He had worked a a taxi driver for 20 years but before that he had worked at Sellafield Nuclear Processing Plant at Windscale,on the Cumbrian coast.
Maybe he had suffered some radiation contamination, but this would be hard to prove, and impossible now he is dead.

4) In 2007 he had been beaten up by a non-fare-paying customer-passenger. During this assault he was knocked unconscious and lost 2 teeth. Maybe this assault had somehow unbalanced his mind.
