Re: Kinky Friedman for Governor? by stenscience on 22 May 2006 7:07pm

I met Kinky a couple of times about 3 years ago. Had a chance to talk to him for a while when we were both early for a book signing. Behind the BS there is a real sharp mind. He also spent time in Peace Corps in Borneo (or near there)-said it was the best thing he ever did. If I lived in TX he would have my vote

Good for you Sten. That would have been an interesting conversation.

He would probably also have the Dixie Chicks performing at every event.

Did you see one of his campaign slogans is, "How hard can it be?"

Kinky is also a great author in his own right. He has a series of mysteries featuring a protagonist who is a country singer named Kinky Friedman that are laugh-out-loud funny. Elvis, Jesus and Coca-Cola is a favorite.

Wasn't his band called Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys? He's got my vote!

That was the name of his band Cori and ironically, the Dixie Chicks are on the cover of Time.

I think all of you are totally right to see Friedman as an "anti-candidate". Our current govenor, Rick Perry, is about as dull and colorless as a glass of water. People accuse him of being just a male model since he looks good in a suit and doesn't say much. I wish I could vote for Lynn Swann as governor of Pennsylvania, and he's a serious candidate.

George, you are right. Lynn Swann is nothing if not charismatic. The Democrat is a veteran politician and in the fight of his life. The election could go either way.

When I was in San Antonio, the others spoke about Rick Perry the way you did. I did not hear a single nice thing about him.
