  The Chatter Box : Travel
Cairo Adventure by picklestravels on 21 April 2007 1:18am
After booking a holiday away in Egypt which seems to now be as regular to the british holiday makers as a B&B in Blackpool, I decided I must take the day trip to Cairo and fulfill one of my all time travel musts of visiting the famous pyramids.

As I child I had watch around the world in 80 days and was in sheer awe. I was allowed to stay up late when Michael Palin was on ;-)

Michael Palin really has inspired me and his adventures have really helped me to understand so many different cultures around the globe. A fellow norther gentleman indeed.

I must say Cairo was not quite what I expected and the position of the pyramids was a real surprise you expect them to be in the middle of the desert yet over my should was Pizza Hut and KFC ah the irony. Seller pester you yet to my amazement they shout Asda Price I am from Yorkshire :-) he he.

One thing travel does is broaden the mind and bring a real perspective on your own lifes little cocoon.

On the way back from our day trip we passed the stadium in which Michael had watched a football match it really was great following in his footsteps and gave me a real sense of achievement.

Thanks Michael one suggestion for your next adventure would be a trip across Russia through Mongolia on the trans Siberian express.

I am taking a holiday driving down through Europe over the summer the wife is acting as the camera man, I have a background in media so will edit a program out of the footage. I will send a link through when I upload it to youtube.

Cheers Mr Palin

Glad you liked Egypt. I went about a decade ago, and I certainly don't remember any KFC or Pizza Hut in Giza. So that is a real damn shame to hear happening.

That's gotta at least be a Guiness World Record for Best View from a Fast Food Chain!

I went to Egypt in December/January last year. Here are two photos I took in Giza, standing in the same place, just turning around on the spot. You can really see the encroaching civizalation (sad):

Sad it is happening, but not surprised. Especially in a poor country like Egypt.
