Guess my country and city from the clues... by kanzis_slave on 20 June 2007 9:05pm

Where is it? It's the home of a matriarchal minority culture that practices a mixture of hinduism and islam, and is nearly 2000 years old. The capitol city of the province located here is situated on the Ca Ty river and has a major fishing port, making seafood a part of nearly every local dish. Many fisherman practice a whale worshipping cult, itself several thousand years old, and the city contains the oldest temple of this religion.

The Binh Thuan desert is perhaps the #1 location in the world for growing dragon fruit (a cactus), although the plants are not native to this country. The capitol city here is also world-famous for it's fermented fish sauce. The desert is covered in vast Saharan-like dunes, cactus, cobras and sand storms, but the desert is backed by mountains covered in dense rainforests with waterfalls, tropical flowers and exotic wildlife. The beach near the capitol city is the water sports capitol of the country, and is known for kiteboarding.

Local delicacies include grilled lizard and cobra, seafood pancakes, goat hotpot, roasted tuna stuffed with pate, deep fried mudfish, and pork in clay pot.

The capitol city is noted as the former home of the once recolutionary leader of this country, and nearby is the largest reclining Buddha in the country, sitting on top of a tall mountain, reached by hiking or gondola.

Can anyone guess the country and the city I'm referring to?

That's a bit unnecessary, Johnny...

I reckon Suzulu is in the right region. I'll go a little north - somewhere in Guangxi, China?

It was the fermented fish sauce that did it! Do I get a prize? LOL!

It looks a beautiful area.
