The Chatter Box : Blathering On
Australian Brigadoon by ev on 8 August 2007 1:40pm
On one day every year in April a small town called Bundanoon, in the Southern Highlands region of New South Wales, Australia, changes its name to 'Brigadoon' - Brigadoon is a mysterious Scottish village that appears for only one day every hundred years, though to the villagers, the passing of each century seems no longer than one night. (Actually it's from an even older German tale but the Scottish version was made popular by a Broadway musical).

On this day there is one of the largest highland gatherings in the world, with over 20,000 visitors and traditional highland games - including the 'caber toss' and 'haggis hurling'..

Ev. will there be a `Mo` catching competition at the games? I am particularly interested as I have always wondered what a `Mo` is, my late father (God bless his cotton-brain) was always telling me about them running and scampering over the highlands.

Funnily, it was always after I asked him about his Mohair Suit...

Talking about `odd` happenings in Oz, I was present in Broome W.A. at the time they have their `Stairway to the Moon` phenomenan. Have you heard about it or seen it? it WAS really something to see, and, yes, it did make me gasp, I actually thought it just HAD to be the sun coming up, it was far too big and orange to have been the Moon!

I used to live in Ayr, a few miles walk from Alloway and Brigadoon. It looks utterly stunning in the snow :)
