Libya by HelenBachari on 27 October 2007 9:24pm

I visited Libya in Oct/Nov last year. For the first 5 days I was accompanied by a guide and spent time in Tripoli and Al Bayda where I was semi-free to meet with friends I knew from the internet. I also visited Cyrene, Apollonia and Al Bayda. For the remaining 14 days I was part of a small group that visited the most amazing places around Tripoli (Leptis Magna and Sabratha), the Jebel Nafusa, Ghadames, the Acacus Mountains, the Sahara, Benghazi and Al Bayda. It was a truly amazing experience - and one that I want to repeat this year if possible. Having friends in the country made the trip even more interesting - I was taken to family businesses, out for meals etc. I visited 2 homes, including attending a pre-wedding 'women only' party in a suburb of Tripoli. There were 40 Libyan women and 4 Aussies at the party. There wss music, dancing and singing. We were given henna tatoos. Most of the women didn't speak English but we had no trouble communicating through smiles, laughs and hugs.

Hi Helen,
For our next trip we're also planning to head to Libya, and hope it will be as amazing as your own. We're planning to go there in Jan/Feb 2008.

I am sure you will have a great time. Hope you add a post here about your travels. Do you have an itinerary planned yet? How many days will you have there?

Helen

Tucson ... why doesn't Libya appeal to you. It's a fascinating country and the people must be some of the friendliest, honest and generous on earth.

I've been to Libya last November with a group and enjoyed it very much. We visited Tripoli, Sabratha, Leptis Magna and made a fantastic trek in the Jebel Acacus. Pictures of that trip (and others) can be seen here: http://travel.petergerhardt.nl

Could be a problem yes, especially if you've got evidence in your passport of a visit to Israel. Libya is one of those countries that bars entry to those who have evidence of a visit to Israel.

I have not visited Israel (yet).
