Mother's Day by Spursfan on 2 March 2008 4:44pm
Happy Mother's Day to all palinite Mums!!

I have had an email greeting from our daughter in Kent (card in the post) and our son has just been round with a card.

For my prezzie he and his fiancee are taking me to see U23D at the cinema in Walsall on Wednesday!!

Unfortunately my husband is away (he's away on a training course for four days from tomorrow)so he can't make it but he isn't bothered anyway.

Yay !! I have the best son in the world!!

Mother's Day? It doesn't come around here in the US until May! How odd...

When my Mom was alive (she died in 2001) she used to have 2 Mother's Days - the UK one and the NZ one!!

My son usually says something like, 'well, it's Son Day every week (Sunday) so where's MY present'! Bless!

I can't remember what day it was but we were in Turkey once on holiday (what a surprise!!) and it was Mother's Day there. The girls of the family we are close to made a great fuss of me.

Incidentally, going off the point, my birthday which is St Georges Day here, 23rd April, is also a big thing in Turkey - the date I mean, not my actual birthday, though it is of course.....!

It is National Sovereignty and Children's Day (anniversary of the establishment of the Grand National Assembly), and it is a national holiday.

Why can't we have a day off for St George's Day?

I got scared I had forgotten it, but it's also in May here. Pheow, my mother wouldn't have liked if I had forgotten it.
