The South is better? Who are you kidding? by TERRY S on 13 August 2008 6:33pm

A think tank have said the North is beyond restoration and we in the North (Sheffield, Leeds, etc) should all move South! What do you think?

My personal opinion is no chance. South West (Dawlish, Teignmouth, etc) maybe, but London, the home counties, etc - NOT LIKELY.

The North is beautiful and these people have no idea what they're talking about.

I'm all for going South if I had enough for a house with a normal sized yard. I like to drink as much water as I want...out of the tap. Oh, and I like to shower when I feel like it and water my garden liberally. I also like flushing into a treatment plant, not spewing it into Victoria's own bathtub. I like to play all day if I want, not count my pennies watching everyone else.

Yeah, it is nice on Southern Vancouver Island...naw...let's stay here, honey.

No, thanks, northeners - stay where you are - I CERTAINLY don't want bloody Mackems from Sunderland messing up the south...:)...well, as an expatriate northener, my loyalties are torn. The North is fantastic, and the south (I've found) is very nearly as good.

And no, I don't want to repatriate myself!

(London DOES have a lot going for it, Terry, but certainly, Yay for Sheffield!)

I'm glad I read this carefully, LOL! I thought this was North vs. South in the United States. We have had that already. BTW, the North won the war, the South, the peace.
All silliness aside, I would like to explore more of the North of England (if I can ever afford it).

Similar thing in Finland. South is more and more popular with young people (read: me). Then again, nothing can beat the beauty of the nature in north.
The pictures I've seen of north of England, I can say that it truely is beautiful. I would rather live there than in London.

I think this is ridiculous. Both North and South England have their good and bad points. (The North's worst is that it is near Scotland....only kidding!)

I am neither Northern or Southern really, being a midlander - though I side with one or the other as it suits!!

I suppose being from the north midlands I ought to be a northener, and certainly for a southerner anything past Watford is North which makes us well northern!!! But my footie team is southern....

When I email our friends near Sheffield I say how are things 'oop Narth' and they say how are things 'darn sarf' but it is just a running gag between us.

I find it TERRIBLY amusing that you even HAVE a North and South, I mean your contry is so tiny it's practially all just the same place without even being able to divide it into two bits!

MY country can be divided into 347 bits and there are still bits left over!

*ducks*
