Train infrastructure in Melbourne by kazzzz on 19 January 2009 7:33am

or lack of.
Melbourne's public train system has been fraught with problems for years, basically because they have spent next to no money on maintenance. They have been wprking on our version of the Oyster card, 5 years later . Millioms spent and still not available. Every day, cancellations, late trains, breakdowns etc etc.

This last week there have been record amounts of breakdowns and cancellations , due to lack of maintenance. Their solition? To stand at Melbourne's main station and hand out free ice creams do disgruntled commuters, who have been forced to wait on platforms in high 30 degree heat.

Well done, Connex. Missy is one of those commuters, hope she got home alright tonight. Oh and hope she got an icecream. Connex are blaming the heat. Well hello, we live in AUSTRALIA!!! 60 canceled trains this week because of one hot day on Tuesday. Response from Connex was "our trains are not designed for Australian conditions!!!!

Oh, don't even get me started!! I've lost count of how many trains have been delayed or cancelled during peak times. Then when a train finally does arrive, you don't have a hope in Hades of getting a seat anyway. It's just atrocious.

I didn't get a free ice-cream tonight. But on the positive side, my train WASN'T cancelled, just delayed slightly. So yay for that.

Our trains have been delayed by 'the wrong sort of leaves on the track' amongst other things so stop whinging!!

Lol.

Leaves? Oh right....and I thought we had problems! Do you get free creme eggs when leaves are on the tracks?

If only. I would travel by train daily AND hope for delays if they did!!

;)

I was wrong - it was the wrong kind of SNOW, not leaves, though leaves have been an excuse. Here is an example:

Connex, hm? They lost one of their local (southern England) franchises because they were so bad.

I daren't hope the situation improves for you quickly, but I hope you can loser Connex.

We too are bombarded - on the underground - with 'always carry a bottle of water with you' in the real heat. That'll cover them (they say)when someone passes out when the trains are stuck for ever underground & the heat's unbearable.
