major translation mistake in the Portuguese version of Sahara by ntvalente on 27 January 2009 10:48pm

Dear Michael Palin,

Being a big fan your travel television programs and books, (I really love your sense of humor!!!) I think I should warn you about a major translation mistake that one can find in the Portuguese version of Sahara, which is really embarrassing for the Portuguese language...

In the Libyan chapter, when the translator is referring to the Libyan people, desert, cities, and so on, instead of "Líbios" (which mean the people from Libya in Portuguese) is always written "Libaneses" (which means the people from Lebanon - the Lebanese).

I think it is important to correct this mistake, as they are completely different countries.

There are also some minor translation mistakes with some feminine / masculine words.

I wish you all the best and hope you keep on traveling and writing as it's always a pleasure to "travel" with you, even if it's only on a book or TV series..

Kind regards,
Tiago Valente

I guess Michael Palin doesn't speak portuguese, and is not the one responsible for translating his book "SAHARA" into portuguese. So,I shouldn't be too hard on him,but I'm sure he will appreciate you bringing this to his attention,Tiago.
Best Wishes.
Does anybody know:has MP ever travelled in Portugal??

It may be a different version of the script for a different country.

Maybe if there are any Portugese speakers in Lebanon they will enjoy the Freudian slip.

It's kinda like people getting Austria and Australia mixed up which happens a LOT!
