The Damned United by Miss-M on 12 February 2009 5:06am

Does anybody know much about the upcoming film "The Damn United", which looks at Brian Clough's 44-day reign as coach of Leeds United?

I know nothing about English football, and I have no idea who Brian Clough was. But Michael Sheen (Tony Blair in "The Queen" and David Frost in "Frost/Nixon") is playing Brian Clough, so I'll be there! ;)

Oh! I thought this thread was about the Damned (the group) getting back together !!

Brian Clough was a very opinionated footie manager - most famous for managing Derby County.

Brian Clough died 20th September,2004.

You never heard of Brian Clough? Shame on you,Miss-M!! :))

His 44-day reign as coach of Leeds United? --Surely you are overlooking his 6-year stint as Manager of Derby County(1967-73),during which period Derby won the Championship.

Michael Sheen is brilliant. Brian Clough was a drunken tosser.

BTW he was more famous for managing Nottingham Forest.

I remember him more at Derby.

I'm sure my ignorance can be forgiven, since I don't live in the UK and Brian Clough played/coached decades before I was born.

Oh, and I'm not into soccer. I'm into Michael Sheen! :o)

Missy I find myself wondering if Rex Harrison was a soccer fan or indeed was familiar with AFL rules?

Re: The Damned United by Miss-M on 13 February 2009 1:19am

I believe Rex Harrison was in talks with the Collingwood Football Club back in the day, Clagster. Then of course he discovered his forte was in theatre and film. However, he made sure that Collingwood was honoured by ensuring that the Ascot scene in "My Fair Lady" consisted entirely of black and white gowns.

Splendid. Did you see Rex perform on Eddie Everywhere's charity event last night for the bushfires? I loved his rendition of the CFC club song.
