THE OSCARS:does anybody really give a monkey's..?? by bIG bLOGGER on 16 February 2009 4:18pm

Oscar Night will soon trundle round again, this February 22nd,2009,folks!

But--does anybody give a hoot who wins what?
More importantly, what can we do to make sure that terrible gushing Brit actress Kate Winslet doesn't go winning any more awards? (her mantelpiece is already stuffed with them)

The Awards Ceremony takes place on February 22 at the Kodak theatre in Hollywood, the 81st Oscars Awards Ceremony.

Susan Sarandon raised a smile when she referred to one of the nominated films as "The Curious Case Of Benjamin Britten"...ahah!..that will be a film by Ken Russell, then, won't it,like Lisztomania and Mahler?

Hey, bIG, is the monkey's posterior shaved or not?

Seriously, though...I can't remember the last time I actually watched the Oscars for any reason than to see the miscarriages of good taste in clothes on the red carpets. I vastly prefer classic films and ones not made in Hollywood, for the most part.

There is little suspense this year. Slumdog very likey to win best pic (maybe deservedly) because that's p.c. Heath Ladger likely to get best supporting actor posthumously (maybe deservedly).

I love the Oscars (though I usually forget to watch them!!).

I had my photo taken on the stairs in the Kodak Theatre - this is where the stars are usually photographed. I think it was about 2 weeks after the ceremony unfortunately!!

For five seconds I was a star !! ;)

If I tune in at all, it's so see the fashions and cameos of celebrities in the audience. Don't really care who wins.

I'm afraid you're going to have to put up with the fact that Winslet is going to win, bIG b. When someone who's been Oscar-nominated a lot and hasn't won and then they appear in a film about the Holocaust, they always win. Likewise if they die before the awards ceremony so Ledger is also a shoo-in.

I do hope Slumdog wins a lot. It almost was not released at all; Warners was going to send it direct to dvd before some wise person at Fox Searchlight took a chance on it. If it wins, it will do a lot for independent film-making.

Bollocks, maybe, it definitely won't get a second of my time. Some excellent movies are made, but such a small percentage of them are worth my time to watch.

It's a self-congratulatory event uneccessary for the public to see. Like any awards event, if you're not involved how can it possibly 'mean anything' to you.

Does anybody think Michael Sheen should have received a Best Actor nomination for his role as David Frost in Frost/Nixon? I do! :)

I couldn't give a hoot, I didn't even know they were coming up. All parading about in thier finery thinking that what they do is incredibly important. I love a good film as much as the next person but they don't need all this endless praise. Why don't they have a huge televised ceremony for our heart surgeons or fire fighters?

Miss-M: I would be OK if "FROST/NIXON" won a slew of awards,
Such as :
Best Picture (nominated)
Best Editing (nominated)
Best Director of a Feature Film: Ron Howard (nominated)
Best Actor: Frank Langella (nominated)
Best Drama Scriptwriting/Adaptation: Peter Morgan (nominated)

Peter Morgan also previously scripted the film "THE QUEEN",which was another vehicle for the talents of Michael Sheen, but unfortunately Sheen cannot win an Academy Award for FROST/NIXON,strictly because he has not been nominated in either the "Best Actor" or "Best Supporting Actor" categories, even though by all accounts he acquitted himself very well indeed in the role of David Frost.
(I think maybe he has dazzled you with his good looks..?)

My tip for Best Actress is either:--
Meryl Streep in "DOUBT" or:--
Angelina Jolie in "THE CHANGELING"
(...Anything to stop Winslet getting her hands on another Film Award!)

My tip for Best Supporting Actress is:--
Penelope Cruz in "VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA"
