"Just how aware are these elephants? Some scientists think they may cry when sad, just like you and me."

Yes,ev,-elephants are extremely intelligent pachyderms and consider themselves part of a bIG family,so if one of their number gets murdered by poachers, the others mourn.

I've seen that on tv before. The "loved ones" of the dead elephant will stay for days and just weep, while the rest of the herd has moved on.

There are probably myriad species who have communication and emotions which WE cannot perceive. We shouldn't assume that because we can't see it, that it's not there.

I am always impressed by elephants and believe them to have intelligence beyond most animals.

An elephant painting. Most impressive.

Oh yes, I've seen this. Maybe you got this web site from me, pete. I know I sent it to many people in my email list.

And yes, they do mourn for days on end. I've seen many documentaries about that.

Holy crap, Pete! That's the most amazing thing I've seen in ages!!! Damn, man!

Thank you, Lounge Trekker, that was fantastic! I remember seeing a book about elephants paintings once, but I can't remember what it was called. I've seen the book about cats painting as well. They like to look at things upside down. (I do too.)

I've frequently wondered whether or not the wrong species was allowed to evolve. Four-legged ones are so much more complex than credited for in the past.
