Shane! Come back! by Miss-M on 9 June 2009 3:32am

Is anybody else a fan of the great Alan Ladd? He was once referred to as a Golden Greek God, which I think is a very fitting description. He was so handsome and talented. He had a tragic life though. Sad. I'll always remember him as Shane.

I thought you meant Shane Warne. I'm really really glad that you didn't :)

Well, I must admit, he was a handsome man. My mother's best friend, rest her soul, was madly in love with him when she was a girl. I wasn't a fan of his movies though.

I have 2 irrelevant and waste-of-your-time things for this thread:

* There are some cool references to "Shane" in a movie called "The Negotiator" with Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey. They debate the fate of Shane.

* My mother was a western movie FANATIC. Had the John Wayne figurine from Franklin Mint or Lenox or wherever. In Jewish tradition, babies are named for family members who have passed away (1st initial). My cousin had a baby shortly after my mom, named Shirley, passed away. They named him Shane. Out of the entire baby name book, ALL the "S" names, they arrived at Shane. I think my mom, from the other side, guided them to it, you know? When they told us his name, I cried.

Okay, back to Alan Ladd now. His daughter Cheryl certainly got his looks.

Off the subject slightly,I was surprised to learn that the third largest rodeo-riding grouping in the world is the International Gay Rodeo Association,IGRA,(website is: www.igra.com/ )-
which has regular meetings in stockyard towns like Fort Worth,Texas. They wear T-shirts with suggestive logos such as:

Save a Horse..Ride a cowboy
or:
If you can rope me,you can have me!

But although ALAN LADD appeared in several westerns,no one is saying he ever had a gay affair. Those were the glory days before Ang Lee's BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN started delving into the lonely lives of cowboys out upon the wide open lonesome ranges.

Cori I think Cheryl was actually Alan Ladd's daugher in law (she married his son David).
