Jane Austen's Birthday by mrsteabag on 13 December 2009 3:17am

It's the 16th. The Jane Austen Society of North America is observing with a tea today. I shall be raising a mug or three in kind. She saved my sanity when I worked at the social services agency. I'd make tea, grab lunch, and read her books in my office behind closed doors. It was quite nice to escape into a world of manners and respect, even if only for a half-hour. Bless you and thanks, Jane.

What a beautiful writer she was. 3 cheers to Jane!

I love the Colin Firth video version of that story. Eye candy and lots of sexual tension.

Right on, Pats!! Speaking of which, will there be any special confections this year? ;)

I've barely had time to decorate my tree. But it's finally up as of yesterday. Really late this year, so no confections, I'm afraid. Well, none of my specials. Mom's been sick and we have 4 batches of cookies yet to bake. The cakes are finished though. SUch a busy time of year. Are you all ready for Santa?

Sorry to hear about your mum, Pats. I hope she'll be feeling better by next week so she can enjoy the festivities.

I helped Mum make the Christmas puddings over the weekend. We've put up our tree and I've ALMOST finished my shopping. Hehe!! What kind of cookies are you baking? Is your tree real or plastic? Ours is plastic! ;)

Pats, sorry to hear about your Mom, and have fingers crossed for her.

Thanks, guys. I think she's made a turn for the better today. Still coughing almost to a choke, but not as weak. She even smiled and laughed a bit several times. AND, made a batch of cookies all alone before I arrived.

Cookies this year and always, are choccie chip and raisin spice balls, both from scratch. We used to bake so many kinds (walnut, banberry tarts, lemon, ginger, almond crescent peanutbutter) but th two former are our favorites and it makes life easier to limit things to just a couple types. Neither of us (mom or I) have the time and energy for all of that anymore.

What's everybody else making?

Pats, please save me a seat at your table. I'll be there by Christmas Eve! ;)

Glad to hear that your mum's health has picked up. xxx
