Tucsonmike in the House by tucsonmike on 19 August 2010 4:03am

I realize I have not posted much for a while. I am glad to see things are picking up here.
Some of y'all, know I went to Paris and had a great time. It was the trip of a lifetime.
I am almost done with my novel, have had four short stories published, so that is good.
The flipside of that is a new chapter. Geraldine, will especially understand, as she has been in our house. We are giving the house up. Elaine's health is not the greatest and we need to be able to make it on just my salary, so we are downsizing and moving to an apartment. (Her legs have really gotten bad and she will apply for disability).

To add to that, I may be taking in a former boss and old friend of mine who is now destitute and I am all she has. So yes, life has certainly had fun with me, but that is the way it goes. Life is like that.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Mike! Give Elaine all my best. And that is such a nice little house.... (sigh)

More and more these days I'm hearing of people having to take other people in, people who would never have thought that they would ever be destitute. All it takes is one illness or being employed in a business that is being downsized.

Mike, I'm sorry to hear that Elaine's health is not good atm and I wish her all the best. It's nice that you are planning on helping your friend out.

I have to get this one in.... America may be a great country, IF you are healthy and in work.

Mike I've enjoyed reading your posts about travel. All the very best with the move. The world would be a better place if there more kindhearted people in it.

*sigh* Will be keeping all three of you in my quiet times. It's good people like you and Elaine who give me hope.

The sad part Johnny is, you are right. I just read a great book by Nation and NPR correspondent Bill Grieder. Elaine and I, I hate to say this, in some ways ARE the future of the United States, especially for people getting older.

Oh yes, you can lose it quickly. The person I may be taking in, I've known since 1976. She was a successful music promoter after I worked for her. She worked for herself and bad health wiped it all out. She promoted Emmy Lou Harris in the early days, then Irish singer Tommy Makem. Folks, do I wish none of this landed on my head. I can wish all I want. As my favorite cousin said, "You are stuck between a rock and a hard place. I can't watch someone I have known for 34 years die alone. I tried to make it go away, but I can't.

Thank you for your kindness folks, I will let you know how it turns out.

Yes, johnny, you are totally right! I'm living in the most powerful country in the world but we are - what? - 49th in the world as being able to provide health care for our people. I haven't seen a doctor in almost a decade since our insurance industry cut me off from being able to get coverage and, if I need private medical care, I will be charged 10 to 15 times more than what insurance companies pay for the same services. I can't understand why that is not totally illegal but the medical establishment has bought and paid for all our representatives in Congress. Until we get meaningful campaign finance reform, this will not change. (And it is so sad that one of the most effective proponents for campaign finance reform, John McCain, has been so harassed by the ignorant "tea bag" movement that he has backed away from his previous position on reform. Are vested interests manipulating the teabaggers? You bet!)

Bless you, Mike, for taking in your friend!
