Motorcycle floats across Pacific Ocean by Lounge Trekker on 2 May 2012 2:25am

A motorcycle washed to sea by the tsunami following the earthquake off the coast of Japan has washed ashore...on a BC beach. The distance from Sendai, Japan to Prince Rupert, on the mainland of Canada is about 4100 miles or 6600 kilometres.

Haida Gwai is known on maps as the Queen Charlotte Islands.

Close. It is a Harley Ferguson and it was in a storage container containing other toys.

Amazing.

Sorry, Harley-Davidson. They sound like tractors, so it's an understandable mistake. The fact that it rode ocean currents across 4100 miles of ocean is, indeed, amazing.

I heard recently that there was a fishing boat spotted a couple of hundred miles off the Canadian coast, that had drifted across the Pacific after the tsunami.

The story fed to us is that the US Coast Guard used it for target practice and sunk it in Canadian waters. No concern for the potential of thousands of litres of diesel being on board.
