Best Holiday Moments? by Spursfan2 on 15 February 2013 7:54am

I couldn't sleep for hours last night and started thinking about holidays we'd had...and thought about making a top 10 list of the best holiday moments.
They are, aoart from No. 1, not in any particular order:

1. Hot air balloon flight over Cappadocia; Turkey

2. Flight past Mount Everest; Nepal

3. Kissing a dolphin as part of dolphin experience (this is different to swimming with dolphins - you are in the water with one and learn all about it); Mexico

4. 'Backstage Tour' at Sea World learning about how they look after sick and injured manatees (one of our favourite animals); Florida, USA

5. Talking to Navajo Indians; Arizona, USA

6. Going on a jeep safari and seeing a tiger in the wild when none had been spotted for months, and then having lunch in a tree house; Khajuraho, India.

7. Seeing a school of dolphins swim across the bay from our hotel beach every morning; Bucherias Nr Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

8. 'Dune bashing' in a 4 x 4 (though I felt very carsick!!)and then having a bbq in the middle of the desert, also having my arm painted with henna; Dubai, UAE

9. Visiting the Joshua Tree National Park (well I AM a big U2 fan after all!!); California, USA

10. Visiting the Syrian border (pre-problems); Turkey

Lots more but those are my top ten.

What are yours? (Keep it clean!!)

:)

I enjoy every moment of a good holiday and I can't remember a bad one.

Well no, neither can I Ken - or at least the 'bad' bits are now ones that we look back on with humour (like the time we went with a friend to Bodrum (about an hour away along the coast in Turkey) to attend the well-known Halikarnas night spot and light show, and just booked quickly into a hotel, because we wouldn't be in it long. The rooms (round the pool) were not as clean as they could be; when I lifted the sack (yes, sack!) from the window it looked straight out onto the back of a byre; and the pool was green!! When we got back to it about 4 in the morning I wouldn't let Zak put the light out in case of creepy crawlies, and we left early before brekkie!! BUT we laugh about it now).

I am just saying about the moments that stick out in the memory.

:D

An impressive list, Anne! You were SO lucky seeing the tiger!

Here are some of my mine:

1. Sunrise and sunset at Uluru, Australia, despite the thousands of tourists.

2. The little penguins on Phillip Island, Australia, also despite the thousands of tourists.

3. Seeing a hump-backed whale while on a boat on the Inside Passage between Alaska and Canada. Also saw bald eagles.

4. Watching the sun set just past midnight from the Midnight Dome in Alaska and rising soon after.

5. Yellowstone National Park - the geysers, hot springs and hot bubbling mud pools.

6. Close encounter with a moose on a trail near Cascade Canyon, Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming.

7. The Badlands, South Dakota.

8. Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse, South Dakota.

9. Pony trekking in Iceland (one of the people I was with fell off his horse into the river!)

10. Breathtaking views in the Lake District and lots of other places.

Thank you - but you have some impressive moment yourself, Sue !!

We went whale watching off Monterey, California a few years ago and saw pilot whales - I got seasick and was alternating between hanging over one side of the boat and going to see them on the other !!

I wouldn't have swapped it though!!

:D

Sounds like you guys have been to some great places!

I'm off to the sun of México on the 16th and returning on the 20th of April.

Mi español es no muy bueno, pero ha tratando a lo aprender. Mi hermano me dicho que la mejor expresione por esto momento es 'no ingles'.

My Spanish is not very good, but I've been trying to learn it. My brother told me the best expression at this time is 'no English'.

So, if I have the discipline to do what I've planned, I'll have five weeks of self-imposed immersion in a Spanish speaking culture. I'll do my best to avoid gringo hangouts. Hopefully I can re-assemble the bike that airline regulations forced me to dis-assemble and jam into a tiny box. A bicycle will give me mobility enough to play a lot of tennis, meet some local people where they like to be and see areas from different angles than most people do.

Oh...this isn't a holiday, but it will be as much fun as going to the dentist can be. I will only see exciting things if I meet some locals who invite me to go somewhere fun...and that might happen.
