The Chatter Box : Blathering On
Tea. by Ken Dunn on 25 April 2013 11:54am
I like a nice cup of tea in the morning,
And a nice cup of tea with my tea,
And at half past eleven,
Well my idea of heaven,
Is a nice cup of tea.

That came to me while I was drinking two consecutive cups of Lapsang Souchong. I think it is from a song of many years ago.

Yaah and I agree with it.

Apparently it was written in 1920 by Herbert and Sullivan.

There's also the song 'Everything Stops For Tea'

Hmmm...I too enjoy a nice cup of tea...a few times a year. Water is my beverage of choice. Right out of the tap here, and it is just great. A litre or two a day. I think it makes a fine cup of tea.

I usually have one cup of tea first thing, then the rest is coffee. I like it strong, not milky.

Zak doesn't like 'English' tea but we both love Turkish tea. It is served black, in 'tulip' glasses, and they just keep bringing it! Sometimes we are awash with tea, having had 6 or 7 - or more!- glasses!

We have an electric tea machine in our apartment, but we rarely use it - we generally have coffee!! This is our tea machine (or very similar).

Sometimes if we're in a café o something where the waiters don't know us and we ask for 'Çay' (tea) they presume we want English tea (which they call 'Lipton's'!) and bring it in a normal cup and saucer. Even though we have asked for it in Turkish!! So to prevent this we always also say TURKISH tea, in a tulip glass. Even if they bring Turkish tea, and not an English teabag, it doesn't taste the same in a ceramic cup!!

One of the waiters we've known for over 20 years, who works at a 'Lokanta', starts bringing the tea as soon as he sees us sit down and doesn't charge us for it!

Thm Liptons T bags NEVER taste like a real cuppa. I am quite content with the ASDA red label bags, they make a good cup of tea. When I was a kid my dad ALWAYS had a cup of tea at hand. When I say always, I mean it. He would make a flask of tea before bedtime so he had one ready when he woke up. As that was emptying he would fire up the kettle, make a pot, put the pot into the flask, then make a pot. Never-ending tea in our house. But in saying that..... he always used powdered milk and the cheapest saccherins on the market. Perhaps this was down to being at sea for so many years. HIS cup of tea was awful!

Lipton's is what the Turks 'sort of' call English tea, in the same way that they call our coffee 'Nescafe'.

It has to be PG Tips for me. And a dash of (skimmed) milk AFTER the bag has been taken out.

Another tea related song! And it's a rap song too! About tea!
