The Chatter Box : Blathering On
Pontius Pilate weads... by sminobe on 17 July 2003 3:07am
J.W.W. Tolkien's "The Lowd of the Wings, Book Thwee -- Wetuwn of the

I've been reading the trilogy (aloud) with 5-8 friends for a couple of years. We've made it through Books 1-2 & have started Book 3. A few weeks ago, we got to Chapter 5, blissfully unaware that we were about to have a very Monty Python moment.

Several paragraphs in we hit the line "You hear the Woses, the Wild Men
of the Woods" & we all promptly lost it. It took awhile to get us
settled down, but 3-4 sentences later was the line "they are woodcrafty
beyond compare." That tore it -- the next half hour was filled with
Pilate-isms: "Do you find it wisible when I say, 'woodcwafty'?" "Stwike him, Fwodo, vewy woughly!" "Stop it, you wowdy webels!" & Terry Jones' line from MPFC, "Oooo, I wet 'em!"

We eventually got through the chapter, but it was painful -- every "R"
& "W" were approached quite apprehensively... In retrospect, the
chapter title should have given us a clue: "The Wide of the Wohiwwim"

Wish me luck -- we're having another weading this Saturday...

You are a bunch of wowdy wapscallions-- wuffians!
Good luck getting through the rest of the book... yes, you will need it. There are few more moments that I am sure will send you off on a happy little Python tangents.
