i was watching an australian film called dirty deeds on dvd over last weekend . (before you get the worng idea tony the title of the film is based on an ac/dc song of the same name , the film itself is a gangster film )the film contained the line "eh she is stealing my lammington" . could any australian tell me what in the name of jumpping janey a lamington is . the secene was in a kitchen so i would say it was something edible .

A Lamington is a traditional Aussie cake. Basically, they`re small sponge-based squares covered in chocolate and dessicated coconut. Quite yummy :o)

I always used to think that Lamingtons were British inventions, but as it turns out they're not (obviously) - apparently they are named after someone's wife. Imagine meeting the lamingtons, it'd be like something out of Monty Python: "I'd like you to meet our new neighbours, the Lamingtons."

"Oh, the Lamingtons!"

"Yes, this is Traditional Lamington, and his wife Raspberry Or Strawberry Depending On The Jelly Lamington."
