ITALY by viv on 29 April 2004 3:10pm
I am obsessed with Italy lately. I am teaching myself Italian for when I eventually do get there. Has anyone been? Could you give me advice on which place in Italy is nicer to stay or even work as I might be relocating. Thanks buddies!!

Yes, I would appreciate some information about travelling in Italy. I would like to visit in December. has anyone travelled in Italy before? what's the best way to get around? rent a car? take the trains and buses? what places to stay in?

It's British Humour. "Shut uppa ya face" is from a comedy sketch from the 1980's in England. I'd love to go to Italy someday. Perhaps also visit Sicily, and visit my ancestral home of Corleone.

Well, I've been to Italy four times now, and here's what I can recommend.

Venice is a beautiful city, but they do have flooding problems throughout the year. Some of the areas during these times are only negotiable by way of wooden planks. Must see's would be the Piazza San Marco, and the canals by way of a gondola. Rome is also an incredible city....the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Vatican. It is a big city....do take care navigating your way around. We toured Pisa by way of horse and carriage....the only way to see the city. And finally (my personal favorite) Firenze (Florence). So many sites to take in (the Palace and gardens, Michelangelo's David, Uffizi Gallery, etc., etc.), and almost all of it can be reached by foot.

Traveling by car between the cities is great, but within the cities themselves....forget it. One of the trips I took a train from Milan to Firenze, and found that to be a great experience as well (just make sure you book a first class ticket....it is worth the extra cash).

I found all of my hotels by way of the internet. I got great information on the hotels, and also received some good rates by booking online.

I hope you enjoy Italy as much as I have.

Good Luck!
