Lest We Forget by Diamond on 3 November 2004 6:11pm

Well thank you thomas for the reminder about the poppies - one local person called at my door today and i bought my three and a car sticker - everytime i pass a poppy box i have to put a little loose change in even though i have a poppy already - the thought of all those men and women who worked so hard and especially for those who lost their lives so that we might live free - well brings tears to the eyes - it never fails to move me when the last post is sounded at the cenotaph

Bless them all

I would never be one to insult the memory of the sacrifices that were made, but to quote the Libertines " Her old man, he don't like blacks and queers, yet he's proud he beat the Nazis...how queer"

How many people like that do you know?

Well point taken I suppose, but that is an example of a popular misconception, that the money raised from the Poppy Appeal support only soldiers from World Wars 1 and 2. Just think how many brave men and women have been involved in conflicts since 1945. Korea, Vietnam, Suez, the Falklands, the Gulf Wars, all of these wars needed brave men and women who were willing to fight for their country. Please be generous in giving money to this, a wonderful cause. Anyone from Leeds, LOOK OUT FOR ME! Find my pic on Sasparilla!

well looks like you beat me to it lyn! i totally agree, i think we should never forget, and people must stop to think that alot of the money we give to the appeal goes to the families who have relatives in Iraq at this very moment. It's the one of the most important charities in this country and we need more young people to volunteer for the appeal, so thankyou so much for doing your bit thomas, we need more like you and hopefully people like you and myself will encourage the younger generation to become more involved with this important cause.

please give generously.

thanks

As the lady said, lest we forget. I could buy a factory's worth of poppies and still not pay .1% of the debt owed to those who've fought for our freedom.

May I just add that the decrepit bigot that sits on the bus isnt necessarily the same man than that fought for our turf with his life.
