Palin's Column Reviewed

Again, thanks to fellow poster Louise I've been able to view another rare gem. In this one Michael is guesting as a columnist in the Isle of Wight County Press newspaper. The series consists of 4 half hour episodes, unfortunately Louise only has 3 so I'm yet to see the end. In this one Michael travels around the Isle of Wight looking into various subjects for his newspaper column and encounters many humurous moments along the way.
I don't remember this being on general release at any time and having just been on the Channel 4 website they tell you that no video can be created as a one-off. However, if we can muster up enough interest I'm happy to contact them to try to organise a limited edition release, specifically for us Palinites. It's a long shot I know but worth a try surely, even though the tapes may not exist any more, please register your intent. |

I suppose this would be in PAL format only if it was limited edition??
Still, those episodes sounds really interesting!

I did look into getting a copy of Palins Column a short while ago and what I found out was that you can get a copy of the series from the Meridian TV archivist whose details are:
Stuart Heaton
PROGRAMME LIBRARY
Meridian Broadcasting
Television Centre
SOUTHAMPTON
SO14 0PZ
It would just be a PAL copy and not an official release and it costs £75 each!! Maybe we could arrange a whole load of people to pay between us and then send out copies (that would be slightly dodgy though?). Or maybe, as Rich says, they would consider a release if we got enough interest.

Did they say why it would cost £75, it sounds a little extortionate to me. I will contact Mr Heaton this week to see if we can strike a deal. Thanks for the info Trev. |

UK. I guess thats just the going rate Rich!
I found this e-mail address for Mr Heaton: [email protected], and realised that a friend of mine has a very similar address. Therefore I've mailed my friend to see if he can do anything (he may not be able to as he's in a different part of granada). As soon as I hear from him I'll post back here so we can decide where to go from here.

UK. No luck there as yet I'm afraid Rich - he may be off work at the moment because I've not heard back from him. I'll post here if I hear anything.

No problem Trev, keep trying and see what you can do, all the best. If you get no joy perhaps we can arrange something else. |

No joy there I'm afraid Rich. Do you want to get in touch with Mr Heaton and see what you can do?

would Mayday be able to help (pardon the pun)if we asked them or asked the webmaster if we contacted them to see if the palins column could go on sale in the shop page of this site - that might stir meridian into action and bring the cost down?
worth a try? |
