christmas carol with a twist by Sophie-Louise on 17 December 2004 2:08am

You must sing this in the tune of 'walking in a winter wonderland'....

Lacy things -- the wife is missin',
Didn't ask -- her permission,
I'm wearin' her clothes,
Her silk pantyhose,
Walkin' 'round in women's underwear.

In the store -- there's a teddy,
Little straps -- like spaghetti,
It holds me so tight,
Like handcuffs at night,
Walkin' 'round in women's underwear.

In the office there's a guy named Melvin,
He pretends that I am Murphy Brown.
He'll say, "Are you ready?" I'll say,"Whoa, Man!"
"Let's wait until our wives are out of town!"

Later on, if you wanna,
We can dress -- like Madonna,
Put on some eyeshade,
And join the parade,
Walkin' 'round in women's underwear!

my sixth form tutor group just sang that in the annual sixth form carol competition and won! some may argue it's not very festive but it's bloody funny. It included two boys in my class putting union jack thongs over their trousers and dancing around... it also starred me as madonna with a mask and some pointy boobs made out of old newspaper...

well we won... god knows how we did but the head of sixth form didn't look impressed...

Right, I've asked this so many times I've almost given up hope.... who the heck is Murphy Brown?! I like the name Murphy, my cousin has a retired racing greyhound called Murphy. He's about 7'8" on his back legs but he's as daft as a brush. Lovely lovely dog... Sorry, appear to have got sidetracked...

I'm not sure if you are all goofing around, but I'll pretend you are being serious and answer your question. Murphy Brown was a 80's sitcom about a national news program (like "60 Minutes") and Murphy Brown was the title character - think Barbara Walters. The show is probably best known because of a halarious exchange of values between the show and then Vice President Dan Quayle's assertion that the show glorified single-motherhood. I didn't care for the show myself (too feminist for my taste), but the war of words between Qualye and the show was one of the highlights of the era.

I remember Murphy Brown well. She was played by the then diva, Candice Bergan. Her character was the prototype "professional woman" of the time. (not a hooker) She was protrayed as articulate, highly opinionated, and very liberal politically. From that, you can draw your own inference.

I wouldn't necessarily say the show was best known for the Quayle - Brown exchange of words. The show was quite successful long before that occurred. Up until then, too, I must say, the show was at it's very best. I loved it. But it seemed to lose it's hilarity with many people once the political aire took over, much like the Ellen Degeneres sitcom show lost it's touch when Ellen started centering her show around her lesbianism. I think people got tired of that, and the show wasn't too successful after that and it was eventually cancelled. Now Ellen is a talk show host and it's hilarious. She's back to being funny again and she even won an award this year!

I guess it can sometimes be fatal to a shows success for taking chances like that. Of course, both shows would have evenutally been cancelled anyway. Nothing lasts forever.

Like the carol. Like it a lot. It's like a Lumberjack Song for Christmas!

I only know "While shepherds washed their socks by night" - sad but true.
