Fine Wine ! by RaRa on 21 December 2004 8:28pm

Can anyone recommend a fine wine to have with Christmas dinner - seasonal thought, but we'd like to try something new and unusual but not spoil the whole meal by opening a stinker ! Also need to find some non-alcohol beverages that are not packed with sugar and have a bit of sophistication about them.....

A shiraz is usually good. But you ned to know if you want red or white first. hahaha

We need white to go with turkey I guess and maybe a red for boxing day hams and pickles.......also for the drivers and TT's, non-alcoholic wine can have such an odd after-taste - any ideas of a good option gratefully received.

Hmm... I'm not too good at wines etc, sorry! Non-alcoholic drinks.... White grape juice? Thats nice... or J2O?

Here in Texas, cold beer goes good with anything, anytime.

Seriously, with turkey we have good native chardenays, Llano Estacado or St. Genevieve. In the US, wine is sold more less by grape. Meaning, if you purchase a merlot or cabernet, it must be at least 80% of that grape. If you purchase a generic "red", it can be anything they want and can be really nasty stuff if you're not careful.

Hmm...Maybe you should check out Cleesey's wine show "Wine For The Confused" ;) Or pay some outrageous sum to get into his web site and get advice;)
Personally, I'd go for water. With lemon.

Stella Artois.........wine perhaps?

For the non-booze beverage request, try the oh so sophisticated Dr Pepper. Your teeth and bones will love you for it ;o) Either that or KateC's recommendation of J20 which really is uber special.

I forgot to mention that "Consumer Report" has wonderful coverage this month. That's how we selected our wines for gifts. And the recipients are not slouches when it comes to good taste, so they must've been quite satisfactory or better. We purchased red, however.
