4th named Atlantic storm of the season - bloody 'ell by canaveralgumby on 6 July 2005 7:55pm

Dennis. Dennis Cooper? Dennis the Peasant? No, it's Tropical Storm Dennis!

Point of reference: Last year's storms all hit end of Aug - end of Sep. Hurricane Andrew hit on Aug 24.

Once again, I'm here to ask that you give to the Red Cross!
Thank you, Yours, Cori

We in the UK have a comic book character called Dennis the Menace. Perhaps this is a fitting name for the storm.
I see the Cuba news puts the storm passing near Jamaica and expected to hit Cuba on Thursday/Friday with the possibility of it developing into a hurricane.
Once again - batten down the hatches!

Were you a Beano fan then Ken?

They're about 65 years old now and so are the jokes!

I loved the Beezer, Topper, Beano and Dandy too - though I did used to read Bunty, June, Schoolfriend as well.

There used to be free 'crackers' - cardboard triangles that made a loud bang when you pulled them down sharply. Does anyone remember? I haven't described them very well, they came in the Beezer, Topper etc along with things like whizzers.

My husband collects the Robert Harrop Beano and Dandy figures - he has well over 100.

I see Dennis is developing into a hurricane and is expected to head towards Florida soon.
I wasn't really a Beano fan, Beccles - our family got the Dandy with Korky the Cat on the front page and Beryl the Peril inside (as far as I can remember). We swopped comics occasionally with a neighbour who got he Beezer. We also got a more intellectual publication Look and Learn while they got Finding Out, I've even got some of the old L & L annuals from the 60s.
