Writing--This is for you, Mike! by bandgeek512 on 10 November 2005 9:43pm

In keeping with the writing topics and in regard to posts from TucsonMike about the writing group he's in, I thought I'd post a little something of my own. I've always been rather sequestered when it came to showing others my writing. The only person that has ever seen what I'm posting below is my English teacher. But, I've decided that I've got to learn how to take criticism. In order to do so, I've got to put myself out there and make myself vulnerable, otherwise I wouldn't get anywhere with writing.

I still write, but not usually on such topics as the following. I wrote this year, in May, for a final exam grade in English class. I won't say my grade because I'd like you to read my story without further incentive or partiality based upon a grade.

I want you to critique it based upon just opening it up and reading it without any prior influence.

Here is the link: http://www.xanga.com/Before_The_Requiem
The title is, of course, Before the Requiem. I put it in a Xanga because it was easy and I want people to read it who may not know me.

*nervous*

I know i'm not michael but i thought i would post to tell you how good that was!! Seriously, i really enjoyed it. I am in my 2nd year of journalism and i wish i could write something like that! The imagery and the tension is so apparent and strong.

You should think of taking it up - even on the sideline. Really really good! You should post up some more pieces, i'd like to read them!

Feeling all creative now, i think i will have to go and write someting!! :)

Layne, that is brilliant! It is so well written, it had me on the edge of the seat! Please keep on writing. Sue

Caroline, you are probably much better looking than I am. Good think you aren't me.
I am going to read Laynes story.

I am going to critique it in more detail, but this story is great. I enjoyed it. You have a major talent and it would be a shame to let it go. Wow! I was in the story from the first sentence.

Ah, you all are so nice to me. Though I'm clearly amature, it's nice to know that my short story was enjoyed! The plot line was one of those things that "came to me in a dream". Honestly, it did! I dreamed it then wrote it.

Well, oddly enough, my little project film thing for Mr. Palin was also brought to me in a dream--I guess the best ones come in my sleep! :-P

So, it's safe to keep writing and perhaps show it to more people?

Hey Layne.
I went over it in more detail. These are some of my notes:

I loved the description in the beginning of how much Mozart was suffering while he worked on the final piece. The struggle to reach the goal. And that ending. The touch of mentioning the music and not Mozarts body. How the "demon" was Mozart himself and the poor man didn't realize it. His powerful intellect and ego vs. his weak body.

I showed it to several members of the Tucson Romance Writers of American group at dinner last night. To a person, they loved it. The only thing all had to say was KEEP IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought I would put this up for any writer who wants to go. Next years Conf will be March 16-19th in San Antonio, TX.

http://www.epic-conference.com/

The sleazy ulterior motive besides helping others out...I am giving one of the workshops. Public Speaking for Shy Writers. I might do it again for Romance Writers of America when it is in San Francisco in 2008. Hey, I'll take it on the road.:-)
All silliness aside, I figured while we were discussing writing, I would post this.
