Glad it went well. I would have loved to have been there, but I would have had to stretch myself 6000 miles. That would have been a neat trick....

Hi there,
Yes,it was an entertaining evening wasnt it.
The icing on the cake was that it was for such a good cause.
It was interesting to listen to Jon McCarthy who introduced the show, but im not sure i agree with the tired arguments about asylum issues..however,lets not go into that.
It was good to see so many backpacker types and people who looked as if they had literally stepped off a long haul flight in the audience.Professional travellers indeed!
I could sit and listen to Michael all evening..the anecdotes are so amusing. My favourite is the one where Mike was offered a tape of a Bin Laden interview by a dubious source in Rawalpindi...since the vendor preferred to trade with a BBC man to one from CNN!
Also, finally,i liked the idea of forwarding a question(before the show) so that it could be drawn out "lucky dip" style from an enormous globe on stage. This gave people a chance to think of something significant beforehand and a fair chance of Mike being able to pick it out!

more anecdotes, please. someone metioned something about elephants but didn't specify....

Re: Last night by measter on 30 November 2005 8:57pm

Yes,apparently elephants like to be massaged in a certain way!!
The bit to aim for if you ever get the chance is right at the top of the tusk where the skin folds up.
Anyway MP evidently did a splendid job!
Yes,it was odd how several blank papers ended up in there wasnt it.
